Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I am involved in an automobile accident?

According to the National Safety Council, one in every eight drivers will be involved in a motor vehicle accident this year. That may mean you! Are you prepared? Would you know what to do and what questions to ask? Here is a list of 11 easy steps to remember, as compiled by the National Safety Council:

  • Stop your vehicle if it is clear, safe and legal.
  • Move the vehicle out of the traveled roadway, if it is clear, safe and legal. (In some states it is against the law to move the vehicle from the place where the accident occurred. Check the ordinance in your area.)
  • Turn off the ignitions of the cars involved.
  • Make a first aid check of all persons involved in the accident.
  • Call the police and, if necessary, emergency medical services.
  • Mark the scene of the accident with flares or retroreflective triangles.
  • Gather the names* of all persons in the motor vehicles and people who witnessed the accident.
  • Make a quick diagram of where the vehicle occupants were seated and indicate the vehicles' direction of travel and lane. Also note the date, time and weather conditions.
  • Ask to see the other driver's license* and write down the number.
  • Exchange insurance company information. DO NOT discuss "fault" or make statements about the accident to anyone but the police.
  • Get a copy of the police report of the accident from the local precinct. (Accident Report Form)

Will I be able to tell if my vehicle has been repaired?
We will repair your vehicle to look and drive as it did before the accident.

How long will the repair take?
At the time of the estimate we will advise you on the approximate number of days the repair should take. Please see our page on the Repair Process for more information.

Do you warranty your work?
At Voelkel's we have a lifetime warranty as long as you own your vehicle. Our paint manufacturer also gives a warranty. Please see our guarantee page for more information.

Can you help me get a rental car?
If you need a rental car, we can help you make the necessary arrangements. Check your policy and/or call your insurance company to find out if you have rental coverage and what your specific limitations are.

Do I have to pay a deductible?
The amount of deductible that you are responsible for is determined by your insurance policy.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Insurance checks, approved personal check or credit cards (Visa, Master Card)

Do I need more than one estimate for my insurance company?
You are not required by law to obtain more than one estimate or appraisal. Please see out Estimates page for more information.

Can I wash my car after the repair?
First 30 days - DO Wash the vehicle by hand with cool water and a very mild car wash solution using a soft cloth or sponge. Always use clean fresh water. Wash your vehicle in the shade. Do not use any commercial car wash facility.

First 90 days - Do not wax or polish the vehicle. This will allow the finish to dry and harden completely.
